The Package
The Onikuma K5 is packed inside a compact, cheap-looking box. The photo of the headset is decent enough, but the printed text with specs is hard to read since some numbers and letters aren't as legible as others. The headset itself is wrapped in bubble wrap and simply placed inside the box without any additional protection. Overall, not the greatest way to ship a product, but it did arrive undamaged.
Here's what you get inside the box. Aside from the headset itself, you'll find a short TRRS-to-dual TRS adapter, a user manual, and an additional promotional pamphlet. My German is a bit rough around the edges, to say the least, but from what I've gathered, Onikuma will send you a wired mouse for free if you write an Amazon review for their K5 headset.
Introduction
If you've ever looked for a cheap gaming headset, it's very likely that you ran into various Onikuma products already. The sub-50$ price category is their natural habitat. Buying a device this cheap without trying it out first is hit and miss—it can be decent and well worth the money or completely unsuitable due to horrible comfort, bad acoustics, or an awful microphone. Usually, it's a combination of all three. In this review, we'll examine the Onikuma K5, a simple analogue headset with aggressive gaming aesthetics and a very affordable $25 price tag, but also the 'Amazon's Choice' badge, should you happen to look it up in Amazon's store.
With almost 1,500 overwhelmingly positive customer reviews, I figured the Onikuma K5 was definitely worth checking out. As I was lucky enough to test most of the newer gaming headsets manufactured by all major brands, I was particularly interested to find out how the Onikuma K5 compared to them. If this $25 headset is any good at all, it just might be the go-to device for gamers on a tight budget. Well, let's find out what's what!
